If you loved last year's production of Disney's "Newsies"you won't want to miss Roald Dahl's "Matilda The Musical." Based on the beloved children's book, with music by Tim Minchin, "Matilda" celebrates the magic of childhood and the pure adolescent joy of being "a little bit naughty."
Matilda is an elementary-aged, brainiac-bookworm with a TV-worshiping dad and self-obsessed mum. Her home-life leads her to the local library where she escapes in the pages of classic novels and recites stories of acrobatic performers who long for a child. When Matilda starts school, she finds herself enrolled under the evil Headmistress (Ms. Trunchbull) who believes children should rarely be seen, let alone heard. When Ms. Trunchbull's backwards teaching tactics go too far, it's up to Matilda to save the day.
"Matilda" became a quick cult-classic, playing West End (London) and Broadway (NY) before making its way to local art centers. This unforgettable tale combines upbeat music with snappy choreography and a touch of dark humor for the teens and adults. Matilda teaches audiences that "even if you're little you can do a lot." Most enjoyed by audiences age 3rd grade through adult.
