Currently, the mayoral term for the City of Lakeville is two years. The City Council is reviewing the possibility of increasing the term from two to four years. The process to amend the term length can be completed by a majority vote of the City Council. However, prior to the City Council making a final decision, they would like to obtain input from the public. Therefore, the City Council will be providing an opportunity at their March 6, 2017 meeting at 7 p.m. for residents to address the City Council regarding the possible revision.
If the ordinance is revised it would go into effect for the 2018 election and would not impact the current mayoral term (which ends December 31, 2018).
